Этот день для большинства наших современников прочно связан с хлопотами и заботами всех учеников и учителей. День знаний традиционно соберет в школах и институтах на линейки детвору, подростков и преподавателей.
Но для всех верующих, способных вырваться из суеты этого дня, этот день имеет совсем другое значение.
В этот день чтится память одной из самых почитаемых на Руси образов Пресвятой Богородицы – Донская, которая чтится заступницей России в сражениях с иноплеменными войсками.
Согласно сюжету, который содержится во вкладной книге Донского монастыря, этот образ Пресвятой Богородицы принесли с собой на Куликово поле донские казаки. После битвы казаки преподнесли её возвращавшемуся с победой святому благоверному великому князю Дмитрию, позднее именуемому Донским. Князь принёс икону в Москву и сначала поставил её вУспенском соборе Московского Кремля, а после возведения Благовещенского собора в Московском Кремле перенёс образ туда. В память о победе на берегах Дона икона получила название Донская.
Икона почиталась, вероятно, еще в конце 14 или начале 15 века, о чем свидетельствуют ее ранние списки. В 17 веке на иконе был богатейший золотой оклад с многочисленными драгоценными камнями, который не сохранился после оккупации Москвы французами во время войны 1812 года.
В настоящее время икона хранится в Третьяковской галерее в Москве. Но каждый год, по благословению Святейшего Патриарха, в день празднования Иконы ее торжественно переносят из Третьяковской галереи в монастырь для совершения праздничного Крестного хода.
В этот день, как и во многих православных храмах России, за Божественной Литургией в храме Святителя Николая (на Ржавце) казачество с особым почтением молилось вместе с прихожанами и священниками храма.
Казачьи атаманы — окружной атаман Алексей Иванович Альховик, помощник окружного атамана Владимир Михайлович Ануров и атаман Тульского городского казачьего общества ЗОКО ВКО ЦКВ Олег Нарышкин, как и подобает первым – предстояли в храме, молясь за своих подчиненных казаков.
К сожалению, рядовые казаки не могли присутствовать на праздничной Литургии, так как часть личного состава осуществляла обеспечение общественной безопасности на торжественных линейках городских школ, помогая в этом деле сотрудникам полиции.
Так, например, в гимназии № 11 г. Тула, где проходил праздник, посвященный Дню знаний, с инициативой охраны общественного порядка выступила народная дружина ЗОКО ЦКВ.
Казаки провожали юных учеников в стены лицея, следили за порядком. Особенно стоит отметить, что казаки получили благодарность от сотрудников полиции и от руководства школы за осуществленную деятельность. Была отмечена важность этого участия для общества – и малышей, и подростков и, конечно, учителей лицея.
